Gazing upon her attire, Dante's eyes narrowed. He disapproved of how much it put a target upon her; she dressed as if she came from those ancient times. Her sleeves, open and loose, her hair dressed in a high ponytail, exposed her neck, the choker and its long ribbons that draped down her back, so easy to grab within the palm of his hand.
He shook his head, "You should take that off."
"Excuse me?!" Kristal retorted, offended by his remark.
"That's not what I meant!" he exclaimed, hands raised in a surrender, "Your choker! I hate it!" he cried out to her openly. He took a deep, shaken breath and exhaled, the cold escaping into the air, "You look like you're in chains."
"I didn't choose this," Kristal tugged at the choker's long ribbons, tempted to remove the jewelry, "Roswell did."
Without another word, Dante's hands reached over Kristal's shoulders, wrapping around to unlock the choker. "He doesn't own you," he said with the choker now in his hands. His eyes softened upon seeing her with her neck bare.
Now she is free.

Dante and Kristal's relationship starts off as an enemies-to-lovers trope. Kristal seeks to uncover secrets about his past as she starts her journey, learning that there's more to Dante than what meets the eye.
Before that, I must focus on Volume 1, and there are only 4 more chapters left! With a spoiler that I'm happy to share, Dante appears in the last chapter of the first book. However, their first meeting is far from romantic. That romance will be a slow burn. 📖✍🏽💜
